You don't have to create Joy. You just have to Return to it – to your true home. A Morning Realization.

This morning, I had a profound "aha" moment. I remembered that during my most profound spiritual experiences in the presences of my teaches, I felt like ‘coming back home’. The only way I can describe it is that I felt, in every cell of my body, that I was coming back home to where I truly belong.
I also felt overwhelming feeling of unconditional love and gratitude. It was the absolute knowing that beneath all the noise, the stress, and the daily drama, there is indescribable joy and peace.
Why does this feeling of "home" feel so elusive most of the time?
We spend so much of our lives searching for it on the outside. We look for that sense of belonging and peace in a new house, a new relationship, a new job, or the next big achievement.
The yogic tradition explains this beautifully through the words of Swami Niranjanananda: "Because there is no peace, no harmony, no stability inside, we search outside. We are afraid to stay at home."
Due to the inevitable pain and suffering of life, we build protective walls around our hearts. We think these walls keep the pain out, but they also keep the joy out.
Here is the most important lesson I took away from my "aha" moment today: You don't need a life-threatening event to access this state. (read my previous blog)
This is the entire purpose of a spiritual practice. Yoga, breathing, and meditation are simply tools to help us gently dismantle those protective walls. They teach us how to quiet the mind so that we can finally hear the quiet joy that is already radiating from our center.
You don't have to create joy. You just have to return to it – to your true home.
An Invitation to Practice
On Wednesday, July 29th, under the auspicious energy of the Guru Purnima Full Moon, I am hosting a special 2-hour practice to help us do exactly this.
Guru Purnima is traditionally a time to honor our spiritual teachers. But the ultimate purpose of any true teacher is to point you back toward your own heart—to help you realize that the highest guide, and the deepest joy, lives within you.
We will use gentle movement, breathwork, and meditation to soften our walls and practice the courageous act of finally "staying at home" in our own joy.
I would be so honored to have you join me.
