Genuine joy is not just a fleeting emotional reaction to external events; it is a deeply anchored state of being that we can cultivate from within.
But in our fast-paced, complicated world, it is so easy to lose sight of what we already have. Today, I want to share a 6-minute portion of my recent workshop lecture. It features the beautiful ancient tale of Mulla Nasreddin and a rich man who was desperately looking for an opportunity to feel joy—even willing to exchange all of his money for it.
It is a profound story about the power of shifting our perspective and resetting our nervous system.
A Question for Your Day: The last few minutes of the video guide us through a short reflection. I invite you to pause and ask yourself:
What is sitting right in front of you that you are not appreciating? If it was gone, would you be unhappy? If you got it back, would it make you feel joy?
I find myself returning to this question again and again. I am often shocked to see, with my eyes closed, how much is sitting right in front of me that I do not truly appreciate on a daily basis. I am so grateful for these simple ancient stories that continue to teach us such profound wisdom.
What did you think of the story of Mulla Nasreddin? Please share your reflections in the comments below!
