There is an ancient story about a meeting between different gods who were trying to decide where to hide joy. They debated placing it on the highest mountain peak, deep within the earth, or at the bottom of the ocean. Knowing humans would eventually climb, dig, and dive to uncover it, they decided to hide joy in the depths of the human heart—the only place people will never think to look.

It is easy to hear this story and immediately think, “I do not have time for joy.” If you feel this way, you are not alone; the majority of us feel completely overwhelmed on a regular basis. Today, we are exposed to the biggest flood of information and disinformation in human history. When life moves at top speed and our minds are constantly bombarded by digital noise, joy feels like an unrealistic goal. We become so consumed by the heavy lifting of daily responsibilities that pausing to see the bigger picture of our lives and also connect to our own heart feels impossible.

How Hridaya or Heart Mudra could help us even when we are overwhelmed and busy?

To help bridge the gap between our busy lives and our inner joy, we can practice Hridaya Mudra, or the the gesture of the heart.  See the picture and watch the 5 min video recording how to do it.

This simple gesture of our own fingers has a powerful effect on redirecting our mental focus and vital energy to our own heart center. It is a secret weapon for disconnecting from drama of life, and reconnecting to who we truly are- temples of joy.

Why it could work for you.

  • Give the Mind a Job: Hridaya Mudra gives restless thoughts a concrete focal point. You feel your own fingers. You feel your fingers touching the heart. You are aware of the breath in and our of the heart.

  • Grounding effect: Hridaya Mudra helps ground our erratic energy

  • Start with five breaths: Hold the mudra for just five conscious breaths into the heart space to notice an immediate shift. It make take you a few more breaths.

  • Create Muscle Memory: Returning to this mudra daily trains your nervous system to quickly shift back into a state of calm awareness.

  • Bypass your busy mind: bypassing the "judging mind" to rest in the "cradle of the compassionate heart.”

    •Acts as safety valve:

by releasing accumulated stress and anxiety to make room for joy and peace

Stepping into Vijnanamaya Kosha

In yogic philosophy, our being is understood through five dimensions (koshas) mapping our journey inward. By anchoring into the heart, we bypass the physical and mental bodies to glimpse the wisdom body, Vijnanamaya Kosha.

When we step into this layer, we experience profound shifts:

  • Spontaneous Joy: We become a witness, stepping away from mental drama.

  • True Contentment (Santosha): We cultivate happiness with exactly what we have, stopping the endless craving for more.

  • Life as Meditation: We learn to cope with life's drama simply by accepting what comes.

The more we accept, the more we share our joy, reflecting on how lucky we are in the present moment. This profound gratitude is the wisdom of the Buddhi Mind speaking.
